Udhampur, June 9: As part of preparations for the forthcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, the Government Railway Police (GRP) Udhampur on Monday conducted a comprehensive multi-agency mock drill at Ramnagar Railway Station in Udhampur district to assess emergency response capabilities and strengthen coordination among various security and rescue agencies.

The exercise witnessed the participation of several agencies, including the Special Operations Group (SOG), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Fire and Emergency Services Department, Medical Aid teams, Village Defence Guards (VDGs), Railway Protection Force (RPF), and GRP personnel.

Speaking on the occasion, Superintendent of Police, GRP Udhampur, Manvi Gupta, said the drill was aimed at enhancing interoperability among different agencies involved in ensuring the safety and security of pilgrims during the annual pilgrimage.

“We have involved almost all relevant agencies, including SOG, CRPF, SDRF, Fire and Emergency Services, Medical Aid teams, and Village Defence Guards. Such exercises help strengthen coordination and preparedness among all stakeholders,” she said.

Gupta added that the mock drill was conducted to ensure smooth and secure conduct of the Amarnath Yatra. “RPF and GRP personnel are already deployed, and this exercise was carried out to further strengthen safety arrangements. We welcome all pilgrims and are committed to ensuring a safe journey for them,” she said.

Meanwhile, similar preparedness exercises were conducted by Ganderbal Police across several strategic locations in the district on Sunday. The mock drills were held at Mata Kheer Bhawani Temple, Wussan Pandit Colony, Manigam Pandit Colony, Wandhama Pandit Colony, and Sonamarg with the participation of District Police, SOG, Army, CRPF, BSF, SSB, SDRF, Health Department, Fire and Emergency Services, and other security agencies.

A dedicated mock drill was also organised at Mata Kheer Bhawani Temple in view of the upcoming Annual Kheer Bhawani Mela. The exercise focused on evaluating security preparedness, crowd management, evacuation procedures, emergency response mechanisms, and inter-agency coordination to ensure the smooth conduct of the religious event.

Officials said the drills simulated various emergency scenarios to test the readiness of security forces, response systems, and coordination among participating agencies. The exercises were completed successfully, reflecting a high level of preparedness, professionalism, and operational synergy.

The annual Amarnath Yatra is scheduled to commence on July 3 and conclude on August 28, coinciding with the festival of Raksha Bandhan.
