Washington DC, July 11: Rajasthan-born Indian-American cardiologist Dr. Samin K. Sharma has been appointed Chief of Clinical Cardiology at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York.
Dr. Sharma, an interventional cardiologist, has been associated with Mount Sinai for more than three decades. In his new role, he will lead the hospital’s Clinical Cardiology Division and oversee its clinical operations and strategic planning.
The appointment has been welcomed by organisations representing the Indian diaspora in the United States, including the Rajasthan Association of North America (RANA), Jaipur Foot USA and BRUHUD NY Seniors. The organisations have announced that Dr. Sharma will be honoured at a special luncheon in New York.
RANA President Prem Bhandari said the appointment was a significant achievement for Rajasthan and the Indian community in the United States. He noted that Dr. Sharma’s contributions to interventional cardiology, patient care and medical research have been recognised internationally.
Dr. Sharma is a patron member of RANA New York, which represents the Rajasthani diaspora. According to the organisation, it has hosted four International Rajasthani Conventions in New York, attended by former Rajasthan Chief Ministers and . A fifth convention is scheduled to be held in New York next year.
Apart from his clinical responsibilities, Dr. Sharma has been associated with several healthcare initiatives involving India. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he worked with Jaipur Foot USA to facilitate the supply of ventilators and essential medicines to India.
Nearly two decades ago, Dr. Sharma established EHCC Hospital in Jaipur, which provides specialised cardiac care to patients from Rajasthan and neighbouring states.
The announcement comes ahead of this year’s RANA Day celebrations in New York. The organisation said the event, to be held in early August, will coincide with a programme recognising Dr. Sharma’s appointment at Mount Sinai Hospital.
