Tehran, August 31: Iran has claimed that it launched ballistic missiles at two US military bases in Jordan in response to a US strike on Larak Island, Press TV reported.
According to footage released by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and carried by Press TV, Iranian missiles targeted technical and maintenance facilities and fighter-jet positions at the King Hussein and Al-Azraq US air bases in Jordan.
Al Arabiya reported that Jordanian air defence systems intercepted the Iranian missile launches.
The reported strikes followed a US attack on Larak Island, in which casualties were reported. Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB said the US attack was carried out in two waves and claimed that explosions heard in Sirik were linked to Iranian defensive operations.
Meanwhile, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said its blockade against Iran remained in place. According to CENTCOM, its forces had redirected 83 commercial vessels, disabled three and boarded two vessels as of August 30 to enforce the blockade.
The reported missile launches came after the IRGC Public Relations Department warned of retaliation and said those responsible for the attack would face consequences.
IRGC spokesman and Public Relations Chief Hossein Mohebbi described the US military action as a strategic error and said it would result in costs for those responsible.
The latest military developments follow the August 24 announcement by US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent of “Operation Economic Outcast”, a campaign aimed at restricting Iran’s financial networks and sources of government revenue.
