Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, September 23: India’s women’s skeet team comprising Raiza Dhillon, Parinaaz Dhaliwal and Maheshwari Chauhan won the bronze medal at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on Wednesday.
The Indian team finished third in the women’s skeet team event with a combined score of 331. Dhillon and Dhaliwal scored 111 each out of 125, while Chauhan contributed 109 points.
China won the gold medal with a score of 346, while Kazakhstan took silver. The bronze was India’s sixth medal in shooting at the Games.
Two-time Olympic medallist Manu Bhaker also advanced to the women’s 10m air pistol individual final after qualifying from the preliminary round. Indian shooters Suruchi Inder Singh and Esha Singh did not qualify for the final.
In rowing, Balraj Panwar reached the men’s single sculls Final A after finishing third in his heat in 6:52.84 seconds. He was fourth overall across the two heats.
The men’s double sculls pair of Satnam Singh and Salman Khan also qualified for the final after finishing second in their heat with a time of 6:15.63 seconds.
In canoe sprint, Harshwardhan Shaktawat, Varinder Singh, L Naocha Singh Oinam and Arun Singh qualified for the men’s kayak four 500m final after finishing third in Heat 1 in 1:29.447.
Megha Pradeep advanced to the women’s canoe single 200m semi-finals after finishing fifth in the heats. Parvathy Geetha and Phairembam Soniya Devi also progressed in the women’s kayak double 500m event.
In table tennis, Harmeet Desai and Yashaswini Ghorpade defeated Maldives’ Mohamed Ismail and Fathimath Ali in the mixed doubles Round 2. Manush Shah and Diya Chitale also advanced after defeating Sri Lanka’s Chanul Kulappuwawadu and Bimandee Swarna.
In swimming, Benedicton Beniston finished fourth in his men’s 100m butterfly heat and 13th overall, while Sajan Prakash did not start the event. Both missed qualification for the final. Vedaant Madhavan finished sixth and Aneesh Sunil fourth in their respective men’s 200m freestyle heats, with final qualification to be confirmed.
In rowing, Jaswinder Singh and Nitin Kumar finished fourth in the men’s pair heats and will compete in Final B. Gurbani Kaur, Aleena Anto, Tendenthoi Haobijam and Poonam also competed in the women’s four heats.
Indian athletes continued to compete across shooting, rowing, canoe sprint, table tennis and swimming as events progressed at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.
