Baghdad, September 30: The United States has completed the withdrawal of its remaining military personnel from Iraq under an agreement reached between Washington and Baghdad, bringing an end to a 12-year military mission focused on operations against the Islamic State (ISIS).
The US military presence in Iraq expanded in 2014 after ISIS captured large areas of the country. American forces worked alongside Iraqi security forces and an international coalition to support operations against the group and assist in training and advising Iraqi forces.
With the withdrawal completed, Iraqi security forces will take greater responsibility for counter-terrorism operations and national security.
Washington and Baghdad are expected to continue security cooperation through bilateral arrangements, while Iraqi authorities remain responsible for addressing threats from ISIS and other armed groups.
