Kolkata, May 13: The West Bengal government has directed district authorities to immediately shut down all illegal toll gates, drop gates and barricades operating without official permission across the state.
Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Agarwal instructed all district administrations to identify and remove unauthorised toll collection centres and ensure smooth movement of traffic.Officials have been asked to submit a comprehensive report on the action taken by May 15.
The state government’s directive follows complaints from commuters and transport operators regarding unauthorised toll collection and illegal roadside obstructions causing inconvenience and delays.
Authorities warned that strict action would be taken against individuals or groups found operating illegal toll booths without approval.
