Bandipora, Kashmir, June 5: The construction of the new permanent bridge at Naninara is progressing steadily, with authorities reaffirming their commitment to completing the vital infrastructure project by August 2026.
The earlier Bailey Bridge at Naninara was declared unsafe for public use following a structural safety assessment conducted in December 2025. In view of its critical importance for public connectivity in the district, construction of the long-awaited permanent bridge, sanctioned in 2018, was formally taken up in January 2026.
Officials said the project has advanced in a planned and systematic manner since work commenced. Significant milestones have already been achieved, including the completion of both bridge abutments and the casting of abutment caps, which constitute key structural components of the bridge.
Authorities explained that the recently cast abutment caps are currently undergoing the mandatory curing and strength-gain process required under engineering norms before further structural activities can begin. They clarified that this technical requirement should not be interpreted as a halt in construction work.
Meanwhile, fabrication of the steel girders has been successfully completed, and the girders are now ready for launching. The girder launching operation, considered one of the most critical phases of the project, is scheduled to commence shortly.
Officials further stated that progress of the bridge is being closely monitored at all levels to ensure adherence to timelines without compromising safety or construction quality.
Reiterating the importance of the bridge for local residents, the department said it remains fully committed to ensuring timely completion of the project while maintaining the highest standards of engineering, safety and quality.
Although certain operational constraints are inevitable during construction, authorities expressed confidence that the project will be completed within the stipulated timeframe, significantly improving connectivity for the people of the area.
