Tehran, June 25: Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy has warned all vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz to use only routes approved by Iranian authorities, according to Iranian state media.

The warning came after what Iran described as the announcement of a new maritime transit route through the strategic waterway without consultation with Tehran. The IRGC said the proposed route is unacceptable and could create serious safety risks for ships.

In a statement, the IRGC Navy stressed that only transit corridors designated by Iran are authorised for passage through the Strait of Hormuz. It advised all vessels to avoid sailing outside these approved routes. The force also said that ships passing through the strait must maintain communication with Iranian authorities and coordinate with the IRGC Navy through Channel 16.

It warned that vessels violating these instructions could face enforcement action. The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important shipping lanes, carrying a significant share of global oil and gas exports. The latest warning comes amid heightened tensions in the region and concerns over maritime security.
