latest NewsHeavy Tourist Footfall Recorded in Nainital During Weekend Rush

Nainital, Uttarakhand, June 27: Nainital witnessed a significant increase in tourist arrivals over the weekend as visitors from the northern plains flocked to the hill station to escape the summer heat.

The rise in tourist inflow brought increased activity to the town’s tourism and hospitality sectors, while also leading to traffic congestion at several locations.

Major tourist destinations, including Naini Lake, Mall Road, Snow View, Tiffin Top, Cave Garden and Himalayan View Point, remained crowded throughout the day. Long queues were seen for boating at Naini Lake, while Mall Road witnessed a steady flow of visitors.

Hotel and guest house operators said that around 70 per cent of accommodation facilities have been occupied during the weekend. Restaurants, cafes, taxi operators and local handicraft shops also reported increased business due to the rise in tourist arrivals.

The ongoing heatwave in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and other parts of the northern plains has prompted many families to visit hill stations. The conclusion of the NEET examination has also contributed to the influx, with several families choosing Nainital as a holiday destination.

Favourable weather conditions, including lower temperatures and clear skies, have further attracted visitors to the town.

The increase in tourist traffic resulted in congestion on Mall Road and at several entry points to the town. Traffic police and local police personnel were deployed to regulate vehicular movement and manage the rush.

SP City Dr Jagdish Chandra said that devotees visiting Kainchi Dham are being transported to the temple through shuttle services. He added that tourists arriving in Nainital are also being taken into the town through shuttle buses once parking facilities reach capacity, while visitors with confirmed hotel bookings are being allowed direct entry.

Authorities said the situation is being monitored as the tourist rush is expected to continue over the weekend.
