New Delhi, June 27: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday departed for a two-day State Visit to Seychelles, where he will participate in the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the country’s National Day as the Guest of Honour.

The visit, scheduled from June 27 to June 29, is being undertaken at the invitation of Seychelles President Dr. Patrick Herminie and aims to strengthen the longstanding partnership between India and Seychelles.

Ahead of his departure, Prime Minister Modi said Seychelles remains an important maritime neighbour and a key partner in India’s Vision MAHASAGAR and its engagement with the Global South.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister said he looked forward to participating in the National Day celebrations, which this year mark the 50th anniversary of Seychelles’ independence. He also expressed his eagerness to hold discussions with President Herminie, address the National Assembly of Seychelles, and interact with the Indian community residing in the island nation.

In his departure statement, PM Modi said the visit would provide an opportunity to deepen bilateral cooperation and further strengthen the friendship between the two countries. He noted that both nations would continue working together to advance the interests of their people and promote security and prosperity in the Indian Ocean region.

The Prime Minister said the visit builds on the State visit of President Herminie to India in February 2026 and would help expand cooperation across various sectors.

During the visit, PM Modi will hold bilateral talks with President Herminie to review the entire spectrum of India-Seychelles relations and exchange views on regional and international issues of mutual interest.

He will also become the first Indian Prime Minister to address the National Assembly of Seychelles and is scheduled to interact with members of the Indian diaspora.

The visit assumes significance as India and Seychelles are marking 50 years of diplomatic relations, based on mutual trust, democratic values and strong people-to-people ties.

A contingent of the Indian Armed Forces, along with two Indian Navy ships, will participate in the Golden Jubilee National Day celebrations, reflecting the close defence and maritime cooperation between the two countries.

The visit is expected to further strengthen bilateral relations and enhance cooperation in the Indian Ocean region.
