Melbourne, July 4: Australian authorities have launched an investigation into an alleged online threat targeting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi ahead of his official visit to Australia next week.

The threat was reportedly posted in the comments section of a social media post promoting the “Melbourne Meets Modi” community event, scheduled to be held at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium on July 9.

The matter has been referred to the Australian Federal Police, which is investigating the source of the post and examining whether any criminal offences have been committed.

Reports said investigators have traced the IP address linked to the account, though no arrests have been announced so far. Prime Minister Modi is expected to visit Australia as part of his three-nation tour and will attend the Australia-India Annual Leaders’ Summit with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.

Security arrangements have been strengthened ahead of the high-profile visit, which also includes meetings with business leaders and members of the Indian community.
