Washington, Dc, July 5: US President said on Saturday that the “Salute to America” celebration marking the 250th anniversary of American independence would proceed despite forecasts of rain.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said he would attend the event regardless of the weather and urged supporters to remain patient if there were delays. He said storms often pass and added that he would wait as long as necessary for the programme to continue.
The said the screening area would reopen shortly after it had earlier been closed because of severe weather.
Trump also dismissed concerns over the scheduled timing of his address at 11:00 p.m., referring to a recent UFC event where heavy rain had been forecast but did not occur. He said the event had proceeded without interruption.
Paying tribute to military veterans expected to attend the celebration, Trump said they had endured difficult circumstances during their service and that rain would not prevent the event from taking place. He added that he was leaving the White House to attend the programme.
The official “Freedom 250” account on X also confirmed that the celebrations would continue. It announced that, at Trump’s direction, the gates to the National Mall would reopen at 9:45 p.m., the “Salute to America” event would proceed as planned, the President would deliver remarks at 11:00 p.m., and the fireworks display would follow.
Earlier, severe storms prompted the Secret Service to close security checkpoints and advise people to seek shelter.
The United States marked the 250th anniversary of its independence on July 4. According to the White House, a year-long programme of commemorative events began on Memorial Day 2025 and will continue through the end of 2026, with participation from federal, state and local governments, educational institutions, non-profit organisations, the private sector and citizens across the country.
