Amaravati, July 13: Andhra Pradesh has stepped up COVID-19 surveillance after two virus-related deaths were reported in YSR Kadapa district, prompting the state health department to strengthen precautionary measures.

As part of the response, rapid response teams have been deployed, while wearing face masks has been made mandatory in hospitals and other high-risk public places to help prevent the spread of the virus.

Health officials confirmed that active COVID-19 cases have been detected in the district. Patient samples have been sent to Pune for genome sequencing to identify the variant currently in circulation.

Authorities have also intensified contact tracing, testing, and monitoring in affected areas.The state government has urged people to remain alert, follow COVID-appropriate behaviour, and avoid unnecessary panic.

Officials said the situation is being closely monitored and that all necessary measures are being taken to protect public health and prevent any further spread of the infection.
