Bandipora, July 31: Heavy rainfall on Friday triggered flash flood-like conditions in the SK Bala and Doudwan areas of Bandipora district, blocking the main road and several link roads and disrupting vehicular movement.

Officials said continuous rainfall during the early hours led to the accumulation of mud, stones, debris and uprooted trees on roads in Doudwan and Malpora. The rainfall also increased the risk of landslides, resulting in road blockades at multiple locations.

On receiving information, a police team led by DO Ajas, Araf Ahmad, reached the affected areas and, with the assistance of local residents, launched a clearance operation. The team removed debris and uprooted trees from the roads, restoring traffic movement within a few hours.

An official said that the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Bandipora is monitoring the situation and that police personnel have been deployed at vulnerable locations to monitor conditions and ensure the safety of residents living near hill slopes.

The official added that continuous monitoring is being carried out in view of the prevailing weather conditions. Traffic has been restored on the affected roads after the clearance operation, while authorities have advised commuters to exercise caution as rainfall continues across the district.
