Kulgam, J&k, July 31: One non-local labourer was killed and another sustained injuries after terrorists opened fire on them in the Kellam area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Friday, officials said.
According to Jammu and Kashmir Police, the attack took place while the two labourers were in the area. Security forces immediately cordoned off the locality and launched a search operation to trace the attackers.
The injured labourer was shifted to a hospital for treatment. Officials identified both victims as residents of Chhattisgarh.
Following the incident, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha spoke with Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat and other senior security officials and directed security forces to intensify operations against those involved in the attack.
In a statement, the Lieutenant Governor said that Jammu and Kashmir Police and security forces had launched an operation to bring the perpetrators to justice.
He also expressed condolences to the family of the deceased labourer and wished the injured a speedy recovery, stating that the Jammu and Kashmir administration would extend all necessary assistance to the affected families.Further details are awaited.
