Gurez, Bandipora: Two women from the border area of Gurez in Bandipora district, Safiya and Waheeda, have turned local products into a source of livelihood and are working to take products made in the valley to markets across the country.
Operating under the banner of “Gurezi Bazaar,” Safiya and Waheeda sell a range of local and traditional products from Gurez. Their initiative aims to connect locally produced goods with customers outside the valley while creating market opportunities for local producers and artisans.
Speaking to the media, the two women said they faced several challenges while starting and expanding their work, but continued with their efforts.
“Many difficulties came our way, but instead of stepping back from our goal, we decided to work harder,” they said.
Their initiative has also provided a platform for local products, traditional skills and the cultural identity of Gurez to reach customers in other parts of the country.
