Chandigarh, Chandigarh, May 28: Newly-appointed Punjab BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon on Thursday outlined an ambitious roadmap for the state’s development, asserting that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is well-positioned to win the 2027 Assembly elections.
Speaking to news agency ANI, Dhillon said the party’s focus will be on transforming Punjab into a global leader in agricultural progress and youth empowerment. “We have to work to make Punjab the best state in the world. We will work for the welfare of farmers and employ the youth. BJP will form the next government in Punjab,” he asserted.
Dhillon’s appointment was confirmed by BJP national president Nitin Nabin, who named him as the new chief of the Punjab unit, succeeding Sunil Jakhar.
A former Congress leader, Dhillon represented the Barnala constituency in the Punjab Legislative Assembly from 2012 to 2017 before joining the BJP on June 4, 2022.
Former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh congratulated Dhillon on his elevation, wishing him success in strengthening the party’s organisational footprint across the state. The message was posted on X.
Dhillon’s appointment came alongside a series of organisational changes across several states. The BJP named Archana Gupta as president of the party’s Haryana unit, Harsh Malhotra as president of the Delhi unit and Abhishek Debroy as the new chief of the Tripura state unit.
Gupta expressed gratitude to the party leadership, stating that her priority would be strengthening the organisation, promoting communal harmony and expanding women’s participation in politics and economic spheres. She highlighted the significance of the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, saying women across the country recognise the BJP as a party committed to their empowerment.
In Delhi, Harsh Malhotra, the newly appointed state unit president, currently serves as a Lok Sabha MP from East Delhi (elected in 2024) and holds the position of Union Minister of State in both the Ministry of Corporate Affairs and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
In Tripura, Abhishek Debroy, a sitting member of the Tripura Legislative Assembly representing the Matabari constituency since 2023, has also taken charge of the party’s state unit.
The organisational reshuffle underscores the BJP’s renewed push to bolster its regional leadership and strengthen its grassroots structure ahead of upcoming electoral cycles.
