New Delhi, July 29: The Central Government has introduced a ‘One Officer, One Car’ policy, restricting senior bureaucrats from using more than one official vehicle even if they hold additional charge of another ministry, department, public sector undertaking (PSU) or autonomous body.
The directive, issued by the Ministry of Finance’s Department of Expenditure, instructs all Union ministries and departments to strictly implement the revised guidelines with immediate effect.
Under the new rules, central government officials are also barred from keeping vehicles belonging to PSUs or autonomous bodies at their disposal, except when required for official duties or official tours. Any government vehicle that is not in use must be kept in safe custody.
The government said the decision is aimed at preventing misuse of official vehicles, ensuring better utilisation of the existing fleet and reducing unnecessary public expenditure.
The revised instructions have been circulated to all Union ministries and departments for immediate compliance.
