Sumbal, May 11: In a coordinated crackdown against narcotic cultivation under the Nasha Mukt Abhiyan, a joint team of the Police, Revenue, Agriculture, and Excise Departments on Saturday destroyed illegally cultivated poppy crops in the Sarie Dangerpora area of Sumbal.
Officials said the poppy plants were found spread across agricultural land and were immediately uprooted and destroyed on the spot as per legal protocols. The operation was part of sustained efforts to curb the cultivation and trafficking of narcotic substances in the region.
The enforcement team also inspected nearby localities to trace any additional illegal cultivation. Police have registered an FIR (No. 103/2026) under Sections 8 and 18 of the NDPS Act, and an investigation has been launched to identify those involved and assess the scale of the cultivation network.
The administration reaffirmed that strict and continuous action against drug-related activities will remain a top priority across the district.
