New Delhi, June 3: India on Wednesday strongly condemned the drone attack on Kuwait International Airport that claimed the life of an Indian national and injured several others, reiterating its call for the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure amid the escalating conflict in West Asia.
In a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended condolences to the bereaved family. The ministry also confirmed that the Indian Embassy in Kuwait is providing all possible assistance to those affected.“We condemn the attack on the Kuwait International Airport today in which an Indian national has died and several of our nationals are injured. Since the onset of the conflict in West Asia, we have strongly urged that civilian population and civilian infrastructure must not be targeted. We again call upon parties to cease such attacks,” the MEA said.
The ministry stated that it remains in close contact with local authorities to ensure the welfare and safety of Indian nationals in Kuwait. It added that Indian diplomatic missions across the region have been placed on alert and continue to provide support to the Indian community.
The Embassy of India in Kuwait also confirmed the death of the Indian national and said it was closely coordinating with Kuwaiti authorities while maintaining contact with the victim’s family.“Embassy of India in Kuwait expresses its deepest condolences at the tragic demise of an Indian national due to an attack on the airport in Kuwait today. The Embassy is in touch with the bereaved family and is closely coordinating with the Kuwaiti authorities to render all possible support and assistance to the bereaved family as well as those injured in the incident,” the embassy said in a post on X.
According to Kuwait’s Ministry of Defence, several hostile drones targeted Terminal 1 of Kuwait International Airport, causing extensive damage to the passenger terminal and injuring multiple people.
Kuwait Ministry of Defence spokesperson Brigadier General Saud Abdulaziz Al-Otaibi described the incident as part of “criminal Iranian aggression” and said the country’s armed forces were closely monitoring the situation in coordination with relevant authorities.
He said the Kuwaiti military remains on full alert and is prepared to respond to any developments, while all necessary measures are being taken to safeguard the nation’s security and stability.
Meanwhile, Iranian state broadcaster Press TV reported that Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) had carried out retaliatory strikes targeting the US Fifth Fleet in Bahrain, further heightening tensions in the region.
The latest developments come amid growing concerns over the widening conflict in West Asia, with renewed calls from the international community for restraint and the protection of civilian lives and infrastructure.
