According to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), earthquakes are a recurring natural hazard in Afghanistan, often causing significant damage in remote and mountainous areas.

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) has also highlighted Afghanistan’s vulnerability to natural disasters, including earthquakes, landslides, and seasonal floods. Repeated seismic events continue to pose serious challenges for communities already affected by decades of conflict, economic hardship, and limited infrastructure.
