Chandigarh, June 2: In a significant step towards strengthening Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Science education, Chandigarh University has inaugurated the IndiaAI Data Lab in collaboration with Intel India, becoming the first private university in the country to establish such a facility.

The newly launched lab aims to enhance students’ employability by equipping them with industry-relevant skills in AI, Data Science, Machine Learning, and other emerging technologies. Designed as a dedicated innovation and learning hub, the IndiaAI Data Lab will provide students with practical exposure through real-world projects, hands-on training, hackathons, faculty development programmes, and industry-academia collaborations.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Chandigarh University Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Raviraja N. Seetharam, senior faculty members, and representatives from Intel India.

Speaking on the occasion, Shweta Khurana, Senior Director, Asia Pacific and Japan, Government Partnerships and Initiatives at Intel, said the launch of the IndiaAI Data Lab marks an important milestone in developing AI-ready talent. She noted that access to AI-powered infrastructure and hands-on learning opportunities would enable students to innovate and bridge the gap between academic learning and industry requirements.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Seetharam described the establishment of the lab as a landmark achievement for the university and highlighted that the initiative is the result of nearly three years of collaboration between Chandigarh University and Intel India. He said the partnership is focused on creating future-ready professionals equipped with skills demanded by the rapidly evolving digital economy.

“The IndiaAI Data Lab will serve as a centre for advanced learning, research, innovation, faculty development, student projects, and industry collaboration. It will provide students access to cutting-edge technologies and practical learning experiences aligned with global standards,” he said.

Further strengthening its partnership with Intel India, Chandigarh University’s University Institute of Computing (UIC) has also launched MCA (Data Science) and BCA (Data Science) programmes. A key feature of these courses is the opportunity for students to earn Intel certifications every semester, enhancing their industry readiness and career prospects.

Prof. Seetharam said the collaboration has already produced encouraging results. During the Intel AI Summit held last year, a team of BCA students secured second position at the national level, showcasing the effectiveness of industry-integrated learning.

He also highlighted the success of the Summer School Programme titled “AI for Future Workforce,” conducted jointly with Intel India, which trained more than 2,000 students from MCA, BCA, and Computer Science Engineering streams. The programme provided participants with practical exposure to AI tools, technologies, and real-world applications.

Chandigarh University, a NAAC A+ accredited and QS World Ranked institution, offers over 100 undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across diverse disciplines and has gained recognition for its strong focus on industry-oriented education and placements.

The establishment of the IndiaAI Data Lab is expected to further strengthen the university’s position as a leading centre for AI education, innovation, and research in India.
