Srinagar, July 13: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has served a legal notice on Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, seeking ₹100 crore in damages over alleged defamatory remarks made against the party.

According to the notice, sent through Advocate Premokh Seth, the BJP has accused Omar Abdullah of making false and defamatory statements during a public gathering in Srinagar on July 11, which allegedly harmed the party’s reputation.

The notice demands that the Chief Minister issue an unconditional public apology, withdraw the statements in writing, and refrain from making similar remarks in the future. He has been given seven days to comply.

The BJP has warned that if the demands are not met within the stipulated time, it will initiate civil and criminal legal proceedings, including a ₹100 crore defamation suit.

The legal notice has been issued on the instructions of the BJP’s Jammu and Kashmir unit. Omar Abdullah has not yet publicly responded to the notice.
