Chandigarh, October 1: The Congress high command has decided to replace Amrinder Singh Raja Warring as president of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC), with the party expected to announce his successor shortly. The decision comes less than five months before the Punjab Assembly elections.

Warring, who was retained as state Congress chief in July, has reportedly offered to resign following discussions with the party leadership. The move follows an organisational assessment conducted by newly appointed Punjab Congress in-charge Sachin Pilot.

According to reports, Pilot held discussions with senior leaders and state-level functionaries before submitting feedback to the party high command. The leadership subsequently discussed the issue, including Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, K.C. Venugopal and Pilot.

Several names are being considered for the post, including former minister Vijay Inder Singla, Pargat Singh, Gurjit Singh Aujla, Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria and Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa. Vijay Inder Singla has emerged as one of the prominent names in the discussions, though the party has not officially announced its choice.

The new state president will take charge as Congress prepares for the 2027 Assembly elections.
