latest NewsTrump Administration Signals Major Action on Foreign Worker Visas

Washington: The Trump administration has signalled that major action could be taken this week on foreign-worker visa programmes in the United States, with officials promising increased scrutiny of employment-based immigration.

US Department of Labor Inspector General Anthony D’Esposito said there was a “big week ahead” on the foreign labour visa front, stressing the administration’s focus on protecting American jobs and workers. The official did not provide details about any specific visa programme, company or investigation.

However, his remarks come as the administration increases checks on employers that hire foreign workers and examines possible misuse of employment-based visa programmes. The H-1B visa programme is already facing greater scrutiny.

Vice President JD Vance has criticised the system and argued that it should protect American workers from being replaced by lower-cost foreign labour. The administration has also introduced tighter measures for some H-1B petitions, while the $100,000 fee linked to certain petitions has faced legal challenges in US courts.

The latest warning has raised expectations of further action as the US government steps up its review of foreign-worker visa policies.
