New Delhi, October 5: Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has once again demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, strongly criticising him over the functioning of the Election Commission.
Ramesh said Kumar should step down immediately and reiterated the Congress party’s demand for his resignation. He questioned the CEC’s continuation in office and said that, “if he has any sense of shame,” he should quit.
The remarks come amid the Congress party’s ongoing criticism of the Election Commission and its handling of electoral matters. Ramesh’s statement is likely to further intensify the political debate over the functioning and independence of the poll panel.
The Election Commission has faced criticism from opposition parties on several issues, while the commission has maintained that it functions according to the Constitution and the law.
