Pune, India, May 30: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Upendra Dwivedi on Saturday said that all three branches of the Indian Armed Forces are fully prepared for “Operation Sindoor 2.0,” should the situation necessitate it. He clarified that Operation Sindoor itself remains ongoing, with only a temporary cessation of hostilities currently in place.

Speaking to reporters after reviewing the Passing Out Parade of the 150th Course at the National Defence Academy (NDA), General Dwivedi emphasised the armed forces’ focus on strengthening jointness and adapting to the demands of modern warfare. He noted that today’s battlefields are “highly transparent,” requiring heightened caution in troop deployment and the protection of civilians in border areas.“Operation Sindoor is still continuing. There is only a temporary cessation of hostilities. The Indian Army and all three services are preparing well for Operation Sindoor 2.0, if it takes place,” he said.

He added, “The battlefield today is so transparent that every movement is visible to the other side. We must therefore be extremely cautious in our deployment, employment and protective measures for our personnel and civilians.”Addressing the growing significance of information warfare, the Army Chief said its effectiveness hinges on public trust and national unity. “Information warfare succeeds only when the entire nation stands together and trusts those providing the information.

A nation rooted in mutual trust will always prevail,” he stated. On the progress of India’s proposed integrated theatre commands, General Dwivedi confirmed that the process is moving forward as planned. A comprehensive report has been submitted to the Defence Minister and is presently under review by multiple stakeholders.

“As far as theatrisation is concerned, it is on the right track. All discussions within the Chiefs of Staff Committee have concluded, and the complete report has been submitted. A conscious effort has been made to ensure that the major interests of all three services are protected,” he said.

He explained that under the proposed structure, service chiefs would focus on force sustenance and readiness, while theatre commanders would assume responsibility for operational employment and orchestration of forces. He expressed optimism that the new framework could begin taking shape on the ground within the next two to three years.

During the interaction, General Dwivedi also reflected on his days as an NDA cadet, expressing pride in Charlie Squadron, which emerged as the Champion Squadron this term. He recalled serving as a PT Captain during his academy days and lauded the confidence and capability of today’s cadets.“The confidence of this generation of NDA cadets reassures us that the future of the armed forces is in capable hands,” he remarked.

This comprehensive articulation by the Army Chief underscores the armed forces’ preparedness, evolving strategic priorities and unified approach to future challenges.
