Amaravati : Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister has announced a proposed population policy that includes financial incentives for couples having more children, amid concerns over the state’s declining birth rate.

Speaking at the ‘SwarnaAndhra–SwachAndhra’ programme in Narasannapeta, Naidu said the falling population trend could create long-term economic and social challenges if not addressed in time.

As part of the proposed scheme, the government plans to provide ₹30,000 for the birth of a third child and ₹40,000 for a fourth child. An additional proposal to offer ₹25,000 for a second child is also under consideration, with detailed guidelines expected within a month.

The Chief Minister noted that Andhra Pradesh’s Total Fertility Rate (TFR) has dropped below the replacement level of 2.1, warning that the state could face issues linked to an aging population, similar to countries like and .

According to officials, the draft population policy may also include measures such as improved parental leave, nutritional assistance, and other welfare benefits aimed at encouraging higher birth rates.
