Brussels, Aug. 3: European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has called for stronger protection of the European Union’s external borders, saying the bloc must do more to secure critical entry points.
In a letter to Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, von der Leyen stressed the need to strengthen border management at key locations facing growing migration pressure. She said the European Union should take additional measures to improve security while ensuring effective control of its external frontiers.
The letter comes as Spain faces a sharp rise in migrant arrivals at its borders, prompting renewed discussions within the EU on migration policy and border protection.
