Kolkata, May 27: An FIR was registered on Tuesday against Mamata Banerjee over her alleged derogatory remarks on Sanatan Dharma made during an Eid celebration in Kolkata last year.The complaint accused the TMC chief of hurting religious sentiments through her speech delivered at the public event.
Following the complaint, police registered a case and started an investigation into the matter.The remarks had sparked criticism from several religious and political groups, with opposition parties demanding legal action against the former West Bengal Chief Minister.
TMC leaders defended Banerjee, claiming her comments were misinterpreted and taken out of context.Police said further action will be taken after examining the evidence and statements related to the case.
