New Delhi, September 11: Security agencies in the national capital have intensified surveillance ahead of the BRICS Summit following Intelligence Bureau (IB) inputs about possible attempts to disrupt VVIP movement, breach security arrangements and create disturbances, sources said.
The security assessment has flagged possible threats involving graffiti, drone activity and attempts to intrude into VVIP routes. Agencies have strengthened surveillance and intelligence gathering around key locations in Delhi.
According to sources, the assessment is based on country- and issue-specific inputs, with agencies examining the possibility of sensitive issues involving participating countries being used to organise protests or cause disruptions during the summit.
China-related Tibetan protests and issues concerning Russia are among the factors being considered in the assessment, sources said. Khalistan-related threats have also been flagged, with agencies receiving emails and other inputs concerning the issue from time to time.
Security agencies are monitoring social media platforms and digital communication channels for protest calls, mobilisation efforts, provocative content and indications of planned graffiti or other disruptive activities.
Surveillance has been intensified around summit venues, hotels where delegates are expected to stay, VVIP routes, vital installations and major transportation hubs. The Delhi Police and central security and intelligence agencies are also maintaining coordination and sharing information to identify potential threats and prevent disruptions.
India is hosting the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi on September 12 and 13. It will be India’s fourth BRICS Chairship. India’s Chairship is based on the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability,” with the agenda focusing on development, sustainability, innovation, institutional effectiveness and the aspirations of the Global South.
