Bengaluru: The has withdrawn the 2022 order that restricted the wearing of hijab in educational institutions, allowing students to wear hijab and other traditional religious symbols along with prescribed uniforms.

According to official reports, the new decision permits students to follow religious dress practices while attending classes. However, saffron shawls and similar political or protest-related attire will continue to remain banned on campuses.

The hijab restriction, introduced in 2022, had triggered nationwide debate and protests over religious freedom, students’ rights and dress codes in schools and colleges. The latest move by the Karnataka government is being seen as a major policy reversal aimed at promoting inclusiveness and social harmony in educational institutions.
