Washington, DC, July 14: Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed responsibility for a new wave of missile and drone strikes targeting US military installations in Bahrain, describing the attacks as the second phase of its retaliatory campaign, codenamed Operation Nasr 2.
According to a statement carried by Iranian state media, the IRGC said it targeted a US drone command and control centre at Sheikh Issa Air Base, a helicopter maintenance facility, and a hangar housing P-8 aircraft. It also claimed to have struck Bahrain’s Al Juffair military installation, alleging that weapons storage sites, a satellite communications hub and a building used by US personnel were hit.
The claims have not been independently verified, and neither the United States nor Bahraini authorities have confirmed any damage to the facilities.
Iranian officials said the operation remains ongoing and warned that further phases could follow if US military operations continue. Tehran also repeated earlier claims that it had struck fuel and ammunition depots at a US-linked airbase in Jordan, though those claims also remain unverified.
The Iranian announcement came hours after US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed the completion of a five-hour military operation against Iranian military infrastructure along the country’s southern coast.
CENTCOM said the operation, which concluded at 10:15 p.m. Eastern Time on July 13, targeted military sites at Bushehr, Chah Bahar, Jask, Konarak, Abu Musa and Bandar Abbas. According to the US military, precision-guided munitions were used to target coastal defence systems, missile launch infrastructure, drone positions and naval assets.
The US said the operation was aimed at reducing Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a key global maritime trade route.
CENTCOM also stated that more than 50,000 US personnel remain deployed across the Middle East and that American forces continue to maintain a high level of operational readiness.
The latest developments mark a further escalation in the conflict, with military exchanges extending beyond Iranian territory to US military installations in the Gulf region.
