New Delhi, September 17: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday visited the SEMICON India 2026 exhibition at the Yashobhoomi Convention Centre in Delhi and interacted with participants ahead of the inauguration of the three-day event.
The exhibition, being held from September 17 to 19, is organised jointly by the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), and SEMI under the theme “Silicon to Systems: Building the Ecosystem.”
According to MeitY, the event has brought together more than 600 exhibitors, including around 300 international companies, across 15,000 square metres. More than 150 speakers are participating, while the exhibition includes six country pavilions and 12 state government pavilions.
The event also features dedicated sections for startups, student hackathons and workforce development, along with displays covering semiconductor materials, manufacturing, advanced packaging, chip design, electronics and systems.
The exhibition will also review progress under the Semicon India Programme. The Union government has approved 12 semiconductor projects, with three units approved under Semicon 1.0 having commenced commercial production. The Union Cabinet has also approved Semicon 2.0, which is structured around six core pillars.
MeitY said electronic design automation tools have been made available to more than 400 academic institutions and 105 startups, while 24 startups have received approvals under the Design Linked Incentive scheme.
The Startup Pavilion is showcasing around 40 startups, while the Workforce Development Pavilion focuses on skills, talent and career opportunities in the microelectronics sector.
Major global and Indian companies participating in the exhibition and strategic roundtables include ASML, Applied Materials, Teradyne, Infineon, Ebara, Jabil, IBM Research, NXP, Tata Electronics, Micron, Merck KGaA, Rapidus, Lam Research, CG Power, Uno Minda, Advantest and Tokyo Electron.
The event is also expected to facilitate discussions on investment, technology partnerships, supply-chain linkages and collaboration between Indian and international semiconductor companies.
