Srinagar, Kashmir June 6: Chairperson of the Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board and BJP leader Darakhshan Andrabi on Saturday criticised the National Conference government’s reported plan to stage a protest in Delhi for the restoration of statehood, asserting that demonstrations would not resolve the issues faced by the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a Deen Dayal Upadhyaya workers’ training programme in Bandipora, Andrabi urged the Omar Abdullah-led administration to focus on governance, development and addressing public grievances rather than engaging in what she termed as “political drama.”
“Nothing has happened through protests, nor will anything happen through protests. The government must understand the pain and problems of the people and work sincerely to resolve them,” Andrabi said.
Reacting to reports of the National Conference’s proposed march in Delhi seeking restoration of statehood, she maintained that such demonstrations would not help achieve the objective and instead divert attention from pressing public concerns.”If the government is serious about serving the people, it should focus on addressing public grievances and fulfilling its responsibilities. The people are facing numerous problems and expect solutions, not political drama,” she said.
The BJP leader alleged that the present government had failed to adequately address key public issues and accused it of neglecting matters affecting ordinary citizens.”The people of Jammu and Kashmir expect solutions to their problems. Instead of misleading or befooling the public, the government should concentrate on development, employment generation, infrastructure improvement and public welfare,” Andrabi added.
She further stressed that governance should be rooted in accountability and efficient service delivery, saying the administration must respond effectively to the aspirations and concerns of the people.
The training programme was attended by Rajya Sabha MP Ghulam Ali Khatana, BJP district office-bearers and party workers.
Andrabi’s remarks come amid ongoing political debate in Jammu and Kashmir over governance, statehood restoration and other public issues.
