Pulwama, August 11: Pulwama Police have registered an FIR against BJP Pulwama District President Showkat Gayoor following a complaint alleging extortion, threats, obstruction of vehicles and harassment in connection with the extraction and transportation of soil for work being undertaken for Gurudwara Parbandhak, Barthana.
According to FIR No. 0145/2026 registered at Police Station Pulwama on August 10, the complainant, Mohammad Yaseen Ganie of Suthsoo BK Pora, Budgam, alleged that Gayoor had repeatedly interfered with the work despite the complainant claiming to have permission from the competent authorities for extraction and transportation of soil.
The complainant alleged that Gayoor demanded â‚ą5 lakh from him and threatened to prevent him from continuing the work if the demand was not met.According to the FIR, on August 8 at around 10:50 am, Gayoor allegedly reached the work site at Parigam and parked his personal vehicle in front of the complainant’s vehicles, preventing them from moving.
The complainant further alleged that Gayoor abused and threatened drivers and workers present at the site and recorded videos on his mobile phone while accusing them of carrying out illegal work.
The complaint also alleges that when the workers questioned the obstruction, Gayoor threatened to take action against them under the Public Safety Act (PSA), allegedly telling them that they would be “booked under PSA”.
The complainant alleged that similar threats were repeatedly made against him to pressure him into meeting the alleged monetary demands.The FIR also mentions an allegation that â‚ą54,000 had already been paid to Gayoor. According to the complaint, â‚ą50,000 was paid on November 21, 2025, followed by â‚ą4,000 on November 22, 2025. The complainant alleged that the payments were made under pressure and were not voluntary.
Police have registered the case under Sections 126(2), 351(2), 308(2) and 308(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Assistant Sub-Inspector Bashir Ahmad Dar has been appointed as the investigating officer.
The complainant has sought verification of the alleged payments, examination of the drivers and workers present during the incidents and an investigation into whether similar monetary demands were allegedly made from other persons.The allegations are subject to investigation.
