Ramban, September 15: BJP leader and Leader of Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Sunil Sharma on Monday said the Omar Abdullah-led government would not complete its full term, claiming that differences had started emerging within the ruling party.
Speaking to reporters in Ramban, Sharma linked the statehood demand with the issue of control over the police force. He alleged that the Abdullah-led government was raising the statehood issue to regain control over the police administration.
“Statehood is only an obstacle when it comes to regaining a lost reign where the Abdullah family’s ‘prince’ wants to wield the baton, the police baton, and command the police force,” Sharma said.
He said people were living in a peaceful atmosphere under the administration of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Sharma further claimed that the present government would not complete its term and alleged that “turmoil” had started within the ruling party. He also predicted that the party could face a split and the government could collapse.
His remarks came days after Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said he was in continuous communication with Union Home Minister Amit Shah on issues concerning Jammu and Kashmir, including restoration of statehood and business rules.
Abdullah had also said that several matters, including the appointment of an Advocate General and the reservation issue, were pending between the Union Territory administration and the Centre.
