Minneapolis (US), September 3: At least one person was killed and five others were injured, including two police officers, in a shooting in downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota, on Wednesday, CNN reported, citing officials.
The Hennepin County Medical Center confirmed that six patients were received following the shooting, with one of them later dying.
Police said two officers were among the victims and asked people to avoid the area around 15 East Grant Street. The shooting was reported at around 5:45 pm local time, following which police vehicles and officers were deployed in the area.
The location is near an apartment complex, the Minneapolis Convention Center, hotels and a hospital. The University of St. Thomas’ Minneapolis campus was also placed under lockdown as a precaution, according to a university spokesperson.
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz said his public safety team was responding to the incident and that state officials were present at the scene.
Federal agencies also responded. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said its special agents were responding to reports of an active shooter near East Grant Street and South Marquette.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation also confirmed that it was aware of the shooting and said its personnel were responding and would provide resources to local authorities.
Authorities continued to respond to the incident, while further details about the shooting were awaited.
