Bengaluru, May 14:Mahesh Tenginkai has strongly criticised the Government of Karnataka for withdrawing the 2022 uniform order that had restricted hijab and limited religious symbols in educational institutions.
The BJP MLA accused the Indian National Congress government of trying to create division among students for political reasons. He said schools and colleges should remain places for education and unity rather than religious or political debates.
Tenginkai stated that the earlier uniform policy helped maintain discipline and equality among students. According to him, removing the order could reopen controversies that had earlier disturbed the academic atmosphere in the state.
The Karnataka government recently decided to withdraw the previous order issued in 2022 regarding dress rules in educational institutions. The move has triggered fresh political reactions, with BJP leaders opposing the decision while Congress leaders defending it as a step to protect individual freedom and constitutional rights.
The hijab issue had earlier sparked protests and nationwide debate after restrictions on wearing headscarves in some educational institutions in Karnataka.
