Washington: Israel and Lebanon have agreed to extend their ceasefire for another 45 days after successful talks mediated by the United States in Washington, the United States Department of State said on Saturday.
According to officials, the extension aims to maintain calm along the border and provide more time for diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions between the two neighboring countries. The agreement was reached during meetings hosted by US representatives in Washington.
The US State Department welcomed the decision and said both sides showed commitment to peace and regional stability. Officials added that continued dialogue is important to prevent further conflict and protect civilians on both sides of the border.
The ceasefire had earlier helped reduce cross-border attacks and fears of a wider regional war. International observers hope the new extension will create an opportunity for longer-term peace efforts in the region.
