WASHINGTON, May 19: US President Donald Trump on Tuesday announced the postponement of planned military strikes against Iran, citing ongoing diplomatic engagements and appeals from key Gulf leaders.

Trump said the decision followed consultations with regional leaders, including Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud and Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who urged restraint and supported renewed negotiations aimed at easing tensions in the region.

In a statement posted on X Trump said “serious negotiations” were currently underway and expressed optimism about reaching a comprehensive agreement acceptable to the United States and its allies.

He nevertheless reaffirmed Washington’s longstanding position that Iran would not be permitted to acquire nuclear weapons “under any circumstances.”

The announcement comes at a time of heightened tensions in the Middle East, with diplomatic channels reportedly being intensified to prevent further escalation and maintain regional stability.
