New Delhi, August 14: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has notified 40 questions to be asked from households as part of the Census of India 2027.
According to a notification issued by the Office of the Registrar General, India, under the Census Act, 1948, census officials will collect the prescribed information through the Household Schedule within their respective areas.
The questions cover demographic, social, educational and economic details of individuals and households. The information includes the name of the person, relationship with the head of the household, sex, date of birth, age, marital status, age at marriage, spouse’s name and nationality.
The schedule will also collect information on religion, Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) or caste, parents’ particulars, disability, mother tongue and other languages known, literacy and digital literacy, and attendance at educational institutions. It will also record the highest educational qualification and stream or discipline.
Questions on employment and economic activity will cover whether a person worked during the previous year, category of economic activity, occupation, industry, trade or service, class of worker, non-economic activity and whether the person is seeking or available for work.
The schedule will also seek details about birthplace, place of last residence, reason for migration, duration of stay at the present village or town since migration and permanent residential address.
For eligible women, information will be collected on the number of children surviving, children ever born alive and children born alive during the previous year.
The questionnaire will further include details on the place of COVID-19 vaccination, number of bank accounts, mobile number, Aadhaar number, voter ID, passport number for Indian passport holders and availability of a driving licence.
The notification is part of the preparations for Census 2027 and sets out the information to be collected from households during the census exercise.
