New Delhi, June 22: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said that India is emerging as a fast-growing, credible and reliable global power, asserting that the country’s actions today will influence the course of the next thousand years.
Addressing the Republic Summit 2026 in New Delhi, the Prime Minister said India possesses a civilisational perspective that enables it to think beyond short-term developments and immediate challenges.”India is not a nation that reacts to temporary events. What India is doing today will shape the future for the next thousand years,” he said.
Modi said India has emerged as a fast-growing economy and a reliable partner on the global stage. Referring to his recent participation in the G7 Summit, he said world leaders recognise that the guiding principle of contemporary India is “Nation First.”
The Prime Minister said the NDA government, which recently completed 12 years in office, has taken decisions guided by the principle of national interest. He said initiatives such as Swachh Bharat, Make in India and the promotion of local products were driven by the participation of citizens.
Highlighting measures aimed at providing relief to the middle class, Modi said the income tax exemption limit has increased substantially compared to 2013-14. He said individuals earning up to Rs 12 lakh annually are exempt from income tax under the revised framework.
He also said the implementation of GST has simplified the taxation system, while digital services have enabled taxpayers to file income tax returns from their homes.
On healthcare, the Prime Minister said Jan Aushadhi Kendras have helped reduce the cost of medicines, particularly for patients requiring long-term treatment, resulting in significant savings for citizens.
Modi also highlighted improvements in transport infrastructure, stating that daily metro ridership has increased considerably over the years. He said services such as Namo Bharat, Vande Bharat and Amrit Bharat trains have expanded connectivity across different regions, while the number of airports in the country has doubled.
The Prime Minister said the government introduced the concept of aspirational districts and blocks to improve development indicators in regions that had lagged behind for decades. He said these districts are now contributing to the growth of their respective states.
Referring to efforts against Left-wing extremism, Modi said violence in Maoist-affected areas has declined significantly. He stated that more than 17,000 incidents related to Maoist violence occurred between 2004 and 2014, resulting in over 7,000 deaths.
He said the government adopted a multi-pronged approach involving infrastructure development, expansion of communication networks, banking facilities and welfare programmes in affected regions.
According to the Prime Minister, more than 12,000 kilometres of roads have been constructed in these areas, while thousands of mobile towers, bank branches and post offices have been established to improve connectivity and public services.
Modi said the government focused not only on security measures but also on winning the confidence of local communities through welfare and development initiatives.
Referring to developments in Bastar, he said sports activities and youth participation have increased in areas previously affected by violence, citing the organisation of the Bastar Olympics.
The Prime Minister also highlighted the contribution of Indian entrepreneurs to the country’s growth. Referring to entrepreneur Sridhar Vembu, he said Indian companies are gaining international recognition.
Recalling his recent visit to France for the VivaTech event, Modi said the response to Indian technology companies demonstrated growing global interest in Indian innovation and entrepreneurship.
