Bodh Gaya, May 30: Myanmar President U Min Aung Hlaing on Saturday commenced his five-day visit to India with a visit to the sacred Mahabodhi Temple in Bodh Gaya, one of Buddhism’s holiest pilgrimage sites and a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in Bihar’s Gaya district.

The visit underscores the deep-rooted spiritual and civilisational ties between India and Myanmar, which are bound by a shared Buddhist heritage dating back centuries.

Upon his arrival in Bodh Gaya, President Min Aung Hlaing was received by Bihar Governor . The Myanmar leader offered prayers at the Mahabodhi Temple, revered as the site where Lord Buddha attained enlightenment.

Welcoming the visit, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson said the President’s visit reflects the enduring cultural, religious and people-to-people connections between the two neighbouring nations.

In a statement, Jaiswal noted that the visit highlights the strong spiritual and historical bonds shared by India and Myanmar and demonstrates the depth of ongoing bilateral cooperation.

President Min Aung Hlaing’s visit to India, scheduled from May 30 to June 2, is being undertaken at the invitation of Prime Minister . It marks his first official visit to India in his capacity as President of Myanmar.

The Myanmar President is accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising Cabinet ministers, senior government officials and leading business representatives. During the visit, discussions are expected to focus on strengthening bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest, while further enhancing cultural, economic and diplomatic ties between the two countries.

The visit is also being viewed as an important step in reinforcing the long-standing relationship between India and Myanmar, particularly through their shared Buddhist heritage and historical links.
