Mohali, June 29: A scuffle broke out between two groups of Nihang Sikhs inside the Darbar Hall of Gurdwara Singh Shaheedan in Sohana area of Mohali on Sunday, police said.

The incident occurred after the return of four Nihang Sikhs who had been granted bail in connection with the Karnaprayag clash case. The groups had gathered at the gurdwara to welcome them back to Mohali.

Following reports of the incident, a police team from Sohana police station reached the gurdwara and brought the situation under control. Police officials said the situation is now peaceful.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Mohali, Harsimrat Singh Chehtra, said the police immediately responded after receiving information about the scuffle. He said the police are in contact with the gurdwara management and no complaint has been received so far.

He said that legal action would be taken in accordance with the law if any complaint is filed.

Harjinder Singh Baidwan, president of Gurdwara Sohana Sahib, said the clash resulted from existing differences between the groups involved. He said the groups had previous disputes and the disagreement surfaced again at the gurdwara.

The incident comes days after a confrontation involving Nihang Sikhs in Karnaprayag. According to officials, a group of around 200 Nihang Sikhs travelling from Chandigarh towards Uttarakhand was stopped at the Kulhal check post on the Uttarakhand-Himachal Pradesh border.

Officials said talks between the administration, police and representatives of the group failed to resolve the matter. While some members agreed to return, a section of the group allegedly crossed the barricades and proceeded towards Uttarakhand.

Security forces, including police personnel and ITBP troops, were deployed along the route after some members of the group were seen carrying swords. Additional security forces were also deployed in different parts of Dehradun district.

The Nihang Sikhs had maintained their demand to continue their journey towards Hemkund Sahib.
