Tehran, July 9: The United States launched fresh airstrikes on Iran’s strategic Chabahar Port on Wednesday, marking a major escalation in tensions between the two countries.

Explosions were reported in and around the port after US President Donald Trump warned that any further attacks on commercial ships would be met with a stronger military response.

Trump said the strikes were carried out in retaliation for recent attacks on shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and warned that the situation would “get much worse” if Iran continued its actions.

The US military said the operation targeted military infrastructure linked to threats against international maritime traffic. Iran condemned the attacks, while reports said explosions were also heard in other southern cities.

The latest military action has further raised fears of a wider conflict in the Middle East, with global concerns growing over regional security and possible disruptions to oil supplies.
