Washington: Indian diaspora organisations have welcomed a U.S. federal court decision that struck down the controversial $100,000 fee proposed for H-1B visa applications during the Trump administration.

Community groups called the ruling a major relief for skilled professionals, employers, and families dependent on the H-1B visa programme, saying the proposed fee would have created significant financial and procedural barriers.

U.S. District Judge Leo Sorokin ruled that the administration lacked the legal authority to impose such a fee without congressional approval. The court’s decision effectively blocks the enforcement of the measure across the United States.

Indians form the largest share of H-1B visa holders, making the ruling particularly significant for the Indian diaspora in the United States.
