Evian, France, June 16: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday highlighted the importance of trust in strengthening international partnerships and reiterated India’s commitment to sustainable and inclusive global development during the Outreach Session of the 52nd G7 Summit in Evian, France.
Addressing the session on the theme “Forging New Partnerships and Rebuilding International Solidarity”, the Prime Minister said that trust remains essential for building effective international cooperation in an increasingly interconnected world.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Modi called for a shift from the traditional donor-recipient model of global cooperation to partnerships based on solidarity and equality.
The Prime Minister also highlighted India’s “humanity first” approach in international engagement, citing initiatives such as the International Solar Alliance, Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure, Global Biofuel Alliance, Mission LiFe, and the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign.
Modi said India’s vision of international cooperation is guided by the philosophy of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ — the world is one family — and reaffirmed the country’s commitment to promoting equitable and sustainable development globally.
The Prime Minister arrived in Evian earlier in the day at the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron. This marks India’s 13th participation in the G7 Summit as a partner country and Modi’s seventh consecutive appearance at the forum.
On the sidelines of the summit, Modi briefly interacted with US President Donald Trump following the traditional family photograph of world leaders. Visuals from the event showed the two leaders exchanging greetings before joining the outreach session, where they were seated alongside each other.
French President Emmanuel Macron welcomed Modi at the summit venue before he joined leaders from G7 member nations and invited countries for the customary group photograph.
Among those present were European Council President Antonio Costa, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, US President Donald Trump, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
During his visit, the Prime Minister is also scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with several world leaders, including Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
A bilateral meeting between Modi and Trump is expected on June 17, with discussions likely to focus on advancing the proposed India-US trade agreement.
